Air New Zealand Children's Interactive Play Installation
Land, Sea & Sky
The paid installation project centred on the creation of an innovative children’s interactive play space, inspired by the immersive theme of Land, Sea, and Sky. Designed to engage young minds through movement, colour, texture, and sound, the space was carefully crafted to support sensory development and imaginative play within a branded environment.
The Project
As part of a 12-week studio practice while completing my Bachelor of Creative Technologies degree, our team conceptualized and developed a paid installation proposal for a new children's interactive play space commissioned by Air New Zealand. The experience was designed around the central theme of Land, Sea, and Sky, reflecting the airline’s connection to New Zealand’s natural landscapes and cultural identity.
The brief emphasized the importance of sensory-rich experiences to support child development. In response, we designed an immersive, multi-sensory environment incorporating textiles, sound, motion, and colour, carefully selected to stimulate curiosity, imagination, and learning in young children.
We developed functional prototypes for each component of the play area, integrating interactive elements that encouraged physical engagement and sensory exploration. Our final concept was presented to Air New Zealand with a comprehensive pitch deck and business case, outlining the feasibility, budget, and value of the project as a branded experience within their airport lounges or terminals. We sold the idea to them, and was further developed by their experience team.
