Normality

Normality

Normality attempts to put humane voices to a vast variety of addictions – both behavioural and substance – and shed light on this pervasive issue.

This project aims to challenge long-held beliefs about addiction by highlighting that everyone is susceptible and that all addictions, whether substance-related or behavioural, stem from the same root cause: a compulsion to cope with pain, trauma, or discomfort.

Through personal, anonymized narratives presented in an interactive touchscreen application, participants are encouraged to match addictions to stories, revealing the shared biopsychosocial effects of addiction and challenging biases. An original dark soundtrack and video immerse participants in the mindset of an addict, while a reflective space invites them to share their own perceived addictions, fostering deeper personal connection and understanding.
